The Sheriffs Department has created a Homeless Outreach Team to begin outreach and enforcement among the homeless community.  While law enforcement cannot solve the homeless problem, we must do what we can to mitigate the impacts the homeless are having on our communities.  I am working to have regular patrols in the Santa Ana Riverbed and, where the Courts allow, remove encampments.

Ultimately the homeless problem cannot be fully ended until the root problems of drug addiction and mental illness are addressed.  Humanely housing the mentally ill and enacting laws to force those bound by drug addiction into treatment will significantly reduce the homeless population.
